Since the election of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, the diplomatic relations between Mogadishu and Dubai adminstarations was not healthy as it was before, but it came to light when a coalotion led by Kingdom of Saudi Arbia and UAE blockaded Qatar and called all of their political allies to cut dilpomatic ties with Qatar or at least to reduce their diplomatic relations, on this matter, Somalia declared that it opted a neutral position and called immidiate talk between the parties.
However, the coalition did not find a way Somalia can be independent on matters they asked only diplomatic support considering their help for Somalia. Since then, the UAE allegedly used some Somali politicians including state primiers to oppose the neutral position declared by the Federal Government and instead to acknowledge the coalition’s dicision against Qatar.
Not only that, but UAE has allegedly supported financially some politicians to propose a motion against the Somalia’s PM in the parliament though it was later foiled by Somalia’a National Intelligence Service Agency (NISA) by dentaining one of the the top motion plotters in a raid at night.
Since then, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia was contacted by the UAE Embassy in Mogadishu asking to arrange a meeting between their Ambassador and President Farmajo, the president has accepted the request and received Mohammed Ahmed Othman Al Hammadi, UAE Ambassador to Somalia, on Thursday at his office in the presidential palace “Villa Somalia”.
The meeting touched on bilateral relations between the UAE and Somalia and ways to further develop them in various fields to achieve the common interests of both countries.
The UAE ambassador expressed his thanks and appreciation to the President of Somalia, highlighting the UAE’s desire to continue to support Somalia in various fields. During the meeting, a reliable source confirmed that the EAU vowed to call off their intervene in Somali politics.
